Ronnie Spector and the E Street Band - Say Goodbye to Hollywood - 1977 - Cleveland International Records / Epic

I’m primarily focussing on albums with this blog but I’ll make an exception for this single from 1977 because it is one of the greatest things to ever be put on wax. Ronnie Spector singing Say Goodbye to Hollywood is sweet, perfect. Ronnie Claims that Billy Joel wrote the song for her. This seems likely. If it isn’t true he certainly did his best at emulating a Ronnie Spector sound. This record is produced by Steven Van Zandt (under the moniker Sugar Miami Steve). It really has a great sense of excitement to it, it’s really, really amazing. Ronnie has one of the best voices I have ever heard. That slow but heavy vibrato gets me every time. The B-side of this single, Baby Please Don’t Go, isn’t the song you think it is but a new song by Steven Van Zandt. That’s a good track too. The only negative about this single is that there was no album. I would have loved to have heard a whole LP of Ronnie and the E Street Band. This post has been a bit more of a gushing, gee-wiz sort of post than usual. Well, that’s what this single does to me, turns me all inarticulate and goggle eyed with pure aural joy. It’s worth tracking down.
