Why is it that first records are often the best? Why is it that some bands that were highly influential are sidelined by history? The first LP from the Damned, also the first LP to come from the British punk scene in the 70s, Damned Damned Damned, is a killer. It is sheer furious brilliance. They have made many albums since this one, a lot of good ones, a couple of great ones but for me this is the best of them all. For whatever strange reason they are often sidelined or totally left out of recent documentaries and books about the history of punk even though they were, along with the Sex Pistols and the Clash, one of the 3 biggest punk bands at the time. What is that about? The Damned are still around today and still sounding furious and insane. An amazing band.
